My Journey

After a traumatic break from being deeply enmeshed in Evangelical Christianity, a friend suggested I explore something I could do alongside his traveling carnival of sideshow oddities. That suggestion led me to begin studying the history and art of tarot reading. Over the next two years, I immersed myself in the subject, reading every book and article I could find.
During that time, I also had several sessions with a local yoga instructor and initiated reader, Jeannie H., who generously shared her experience and insight into the practice. Eventually, I was gifted a Rider Waite deck, the standard foundation for modern tarot readings. Even then, I remained skeptical and did not feel ready or qualified to read for others, despite the amount I had studied and the informal apprenticeship I had received.
Part of my hesitation came from my background. I had been indoctrinated with religious beliefs that directly rejected tarot and similar practices. I also have a pragmatic mind and a strong interest in scientific discovery and natural physics, and I have long believed that much of what is labeled “supernatural” often has more grounded, human explanations.
Over time, I was persuaded to offer readings to a few close friends. Their feedback surprised me. They consistently described the sessions as accurate, relevant, and meaningful. Still, my reservations lingered, and for a long while I handled the cards only rarely.
While continuing to search for purpose and direction, I began freelancing as a graphic designer and illustrator. Through Upwork, I connected with a Magdalene Priestess named Mary Freeman, who commissioned me to create modern portraits of the goddesses Hathor, Isis, and Mary Magdalene. That collaboration eventually became www.grlsociety.org and the book GRL Society: Goddesses of the Rose Lineage.
Working with Mary has opened my mind and heart to broader forms of spirituality. I began developing my own understanding of divinity outside of organized religion. Today, I continue to research esoteric spirituality, write articles for our site, and share my knowledge, experience, and intuitive gifts with others in a way that feels grounded, ethical, and authentic.
Who is Khepri?

Khepri is the ancient Egyptian god of the rising sun and rebirth, often depicted as a scarab beetle. The Egyptians saw the beetle rolling a ball of dung as a symbol of the sun’s daily journey across the sky, and the word kheper means “to emerge” or “to come into being.”
He represents the dawn, renewal, and the cycle of life, linking him to Atum, Nefertum, and Ra. Scarab amulets reflected his role in protection and rebirth, and while he had no dedicated temples, Khepri was widely recognized in both everyday life and royal rituals.
Why Khepri?

I was drawn to Khepri not because of doctrine or tradition, but because of resonance. After walking away from a belief system that shaped my identity for many years, I found myself in a long period of rebuilding. The symbolism of renewal without erasure, becoming something new without denying what came before, felt deeply familiar.
There is also a personal connection. I have been called “Bug” for most of my life, a nickname that has followed me through different chapters and versions of myself. Discovering Khepri as a figure of rebirth represented through a beetle felt less like coincidence and more like recognition.
For me, Khepri is not an object of worship, but a symbolic guide. He represents the slow, often unseen process of change, the daily act of pushing forward, and the possibility of beginning again without pretending the past never happened.
